Works are happening at the Grange Estate between April and late July 2010. We've added technical drawings showing what's going on.
Works are going on at the Grange Estate between April and late July 2010. The pdf files listed below show the detail of individual projects. They are, by their nature quite technical, but they do give interesting detail of the exciting developments taking place in the area. The Scrapes (863kb) - shallow depressions designed to attract and provide feeding opportunities for wading birds. Located between the Wash Pits & the main lake
Reinstatement of existing ditches (345kb) – between the River and the grazing areas
The Bulge - an area of woodland plantation to the north of the Grange Estate, alongside the River Great Ouse
Alignment of new ditches at the Bulge (796kb) – designed to take water from the Ouse into channels and ponds and then back into the main river channel. These new water courses will create spawning areas and rufuges for river fish as well as other water dependent animals and plants
Culvert construction (1.14Mb) – detail of a large culvert to carry water from the main Ouse channel into the new ditches, under the line of a footpath
Drainage improvements (291kb) alongside the cycle way and River Ouse, near the Bulge
Elstow Brook
Works to divert water (1.14Mb) from Elstow Brook to create wet woodland
Access track realignment (796kb) – a culvert beneath the cycle track to carry the water outfall from the wet woodland water courses described above
